LOCATION

Cinema Hostel Jerusalem offers the perfect base to explore, no matter what brings you to Jerusalem! Located in the ‘downtown triangle’, a central commercial and entertainment district within the boundaries of Jaffa Road, King George Street and Ben Yehuda, it is easily accessible for all the city’s charms: both ancient and new. Take a walk from here to the Old City (15 minutes), the pedestrianised Mamilla district (13 minutes) or even the bustling food market at Machne Yehuda (12 minutes)… the choices are endless.

Being in the centre of town means we are also very easy to find. It’s an 8 minute tram journey from the central bus station. Israel’s main airport, Ben Gurion, is a 30 minute drive away.

Millions of tourists visit Jerusalem every year, and for many good reasons – the fascinating archaeological sites, some of the best examples of top gastronomy, dynamic cultural experiences and unique shopping opportunities.

Revered by millions of people, Jerusalem must be experienced to be believed. Home to the Western Wall, the Dome of the Rock and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, it is unquestionably one of the most spiritual places you will ever visit, but it’s Jerusalem’s personal flavor that will really have you feeling like it’s the home you never knew you had in no time at all!

WHY CINEMA HOSTEL?

Jerusalem’s newest hostel blends the magic of the big screen with the mystery and charm of one of the world’s most ancient cities.

Since its opening in 1938, to its glory days in the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties and even after its closure in the 1990s, the Orion Cinema has survived as a treasured landmark on the streets of Israel’s capital.

In 2018, after a complete overhaul which proved a major labour of love, the Orion once again opened its doors to the public – but this time as the Cinema Hostel, a unique and affordable home from home at the heart of Jerusalem.

We have invested much love and energy into the Orion of yesteryear, by preserving the original architecture and including the world of film in the overall design. Each and every room is based on a different movie from the golden age of cinema with a hearty dose of nostalgia and atmosphere.

WHY CINEMA HOSTEL?

The Cinema Hostel creates a warm environment in the heart of Jerusalem, on a backdrop of your favorite classic films. Perfectly placed for exploring, the Cinema Hostel also offers tours and activities so you’re always around friends! Between our incredible staff, tourism centre, daily movie nights and beyond central location, what’s not to love?

Grab a drink at our bar or just chill in the lounge, The Cinema Hostel is your place to feel at home and choose your own adventure!

ABOUT THE CINEMA HOSTEL

The Orion Cinema has survived as a treasured landmark on the streets of Israel’s capital, and now we are lucky enough to call it home!

In 2018, after a complete overhaul, which proved a major labor of love, the Orion once again opened its doors to the public; This time as the Cinema Hostel Jerusalem, a unique and affordable home away from home in the very center of Jerusalem.

The old Orion Cinema was home to 1,400 seats at it’s peak; housing classic, controversial, and independent films, it really stood on the frontline of Israeli culture all through the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. The building’s classic Jerusalem stone and impressive dome structure, was offset by an interior inspired by the Radio City Music Hall.  By the 80s cinema in Jerusalem saw a decline, and the beautiful Orion building lay abandoned for 25 years.

When young entrepreneurs, Adir Amsalem and Michael Perelshtein, found the Orion building, they were keen to bring new life to the building, and celebrate the integrity of the building’s roots. Placing the building once again at the heart of the community, Cinema Hostel Jerusalem puts as much an emphasis on atmosphere as it does on experience.

“We have invested much love and energy into the Orion of yesteryear, by preserving the original architecture and incorporating the world of film into the overall design. Each and every room is themed on a different movie, conjuring up the golden age of cinema with a hearty dose of nostalgia and atmosphere.” – Michael Perelshtein
